Brooklyn Regal started as a weekend hobby in my Brooklyn apartment in the summer of 2013. Brooklyn is an incredible place to be in the summer, specifically Williamsburg where I reside. Williamsburg has tons of artisan shops, flea markets, and cute boutiques to spend warm summer afternoons shopping.
Nearly every weekend, I’d spend my Saturday or Sunday visiting these shops and always found myself at the flea and the plant/gardening shops. This is wheremy love of found objects and succulents came about.
I have always loved junk, in the cool rustic decoration kind of way and collecting things has always been a pricey and unnecessary hobby. Similarly, I have always loved cacti. I can’t remember a time where I didn’t have a cactus, and friends would get me cacti as presents when they traveled. It’s difficult to take care of plants (for someone like me) and I manage to kill everything I own. Cacti, however, aren’t easy to kill, and you feel a sense of accomplishment by keeping one alive, in the “I can keep a cactus alive, I can do ANYTHING!” kind of way. Discovering succulents, a less pokey version of cacti, reintroduced me to the world of greens after moving to NYC.
With Brooklyn Regal, I wanted to share my love for both found objects, and easy to care for (but cool and unique) plants with the world. Everything on the site is unique so inventory is always changing, with every new visit to the flea. I’m not looking to make a million dollars - I just want to share fun and unique products and finds with people who aren’t interested in the everyday-run-of-the-mill!
