Alaire finds happiness in a lot of things –– industrial objects, vintage finds, and making things ever-so-slightly dramatic, for starters. As one could imagine, these interests all roll together quite nicely into the trade of jewelry-making. She loves transforming simple geometric shapes into stunning statement pieces, just by adding artfully-arranged, hand-stamped or painted patterns. In this way, Alaire incorporates many of the industrial and vintage elements that she loves, with just a little bit of drama. She sketches and then builds. And you know what? That makes her happy too.

Laira+Lou began as a hobby making jewelry for friends and family, but quickly became a full time job when Alaire got her first chance at a flash sale website that wanted to feature her goods. Her confidence grew, and so did her love of making jewelry that transforms pieces into wearable works of art, for both men and women.

Her favorite mediums to work with are brass and copper because they are easily accessible, which makes them affordable. That is something the Laira+Lou brands stands for.

Alaire often says “you will never know unless you fail at something, that it was really worth you trying.” That is because when she first started out she failed a lot, but failing made her learn from her mistakes, and made her realize that failure was a stepping stone to being successful in whatever we do in life. When Alaire is not hammering, torching, or oxidizing her next piece of jewelry, she enjoys spending time with friends, going thrifting, and chick flicks.
