Birmingham Special Dog

BRAND NEW for 2024! One of my favorite regional dogs in the country, that I've been meaning to properly paint for YEARS. Birmingham's Greek-inspired "Special Dog" was made popular by places like Pete's Famous (RIP) and Gus's (Still going strong!) - unlike anything else in the south, unlike anything else in the country. It's an "everything but the kitchen sink" type of dog, but somehow it all makes sense. The style has been around for decades: a griddle-charred weiner, liberally topped with mildly seasoned ground beef, mustard and onions, sauerkraut, and a lacquering of "sauce" - a secret recipe concoction that seems like a cross between NYC red onion sauce and maybe thin Carolina vinegar BBQ sauce.
