What makes [Wash of the Day] soap different?

[Wash of the Day] soap is made using only the most pure, organic, sustainable products. We know those words get thrown around all the time, while users of said words are rarely actually held accountable to what it is they are talking about. With that, we provided a little outline.

Palm-Free.
We don't use palm oil in our soaps. Ever. What's so wrong with palm oil, you ask? The palm oil industry is the cause for devastating deforestation in Indonesia and Malaysia. We kind of like the idea of orangutans living, people keeping their homes, and tropical rainforests, so we don't use palm oil in our soaps.

Chemical-Free.
We don't use stuff like triclosan, phthalates, parabens; we don't make "beauty bars" or "cosmetic cleansers" that make a bunch of claims and shove a bunch of different ingredients into a single bar. We make soap. We don't claim that you'll look younger, feel better, or be able to run a marathon with a single pass of Clean::theBar across your face and legs. We can claim, though, that we feel awesome using [Wash of the Day] soap. We hope you do, too.

Additive-Free.
Technically, additives are just things added, so maybe we kind of do. What we're trying to get at is this: we don't put nasty toxins or detergents in our soap. It seems like common sense, but the truth is many soaps out there do this and it's just not our thing. If you have to Google an ingredient to know what it means, you probably don't want that in your soap; we don't want that either.

Dye-Free.
What you see is what you get! Our Clean::theBar soap bars are au naturale. The color of each bar is just the natural, naked color of the soap after it's been made. No colors or dyes are added to alter the appearance of our soaps.

Crap-Free.
Do we really need to explain? We're keeping things ACAP: As Clean As Possible.

Earth-Friendly.
All Clean::theBar soaps are made with organic, sustainable ingredients.

Vegan-Friendly.
Some of our soaps are vegan-friendly! All ingredients are listed by each bar of soap; we've got nothing to hide.

Animal-Friendly.
We don't use animal fats in our soaps. We do use goat's milk. You'll be happy to know our goats are just too precious and are treated with lots of love and care. Oh, we also occasionally use musk. For the record, we're not against using things like tallow in soap; we just don't do it.

People-Friendly.
Our soap doesn't talk or have emotions, but if it did, it would love you (and tell you, too). With it's pureness of composition and organic spirit, it's no wonder it lathers up with bubbly joy at the thought of you and fulfilling your soap needs.

How did [Wash of the Day] soap start?

It started with one mother (Erica) and one daughter (Alicia) . Here's their story, in Alicia's own words. Enjoy.

[Wash of the Day] came about in an interesting way. As a CrossFit athlete making my way through Whole9Life's food journey called Whole30, I learned to read every label on every food I considered putting into my body. I was taking a shower one day after a killer WOD and realized that I cared a lot about what was going inside my body, but after reading the mile-long list of ingredients on my body soap, noticed I hadn't given a second thought to what I put on the outside of my body!

I asked my mom (a beautician, and a darn good one, I might add) to check her sources to hook me up with some good, plain ol' soap. Come to find out, finding "pure" soap according to Paleo specifications proved far more difficult and intricate of a process than neither of us could have ever imagined....

Long story short, it was impossible to find what we wanted. So, we decided to make it ourselves! After months of R&D, we were finally able to develop a soap that met our needs, not to mention the needs of many others out there (thus [Wash of the Day]). Surely we weren't the only ones looking to improve their soap situation, and so the business began!

As a CrossFit chick who's committed to sustainable living, I'm proud to say our soaps "keep it clean":

No Soy
No Palm
No Rice
No Wheat
No Grains

You might be thinking, "that stuff is really in soap?" and the answer is this: once you start looking, you'll be amazed at what is in your soap! Many companies out there do not even realize what their soap contains, as much of artisan soap is sourced from a few major distributors. It is then melted down, color is added, a signature package is added, and voila - soap! The soap community is very active and there's a soap for every kind of person, so we commend our fellow soapsters and their commitment to the craft.

We took a different route; custom soap with the conscious soap-user in mind. Every bar is made from scratch. Our soap chemists make sure every batch is well-balanced. Each ingredient is organic (minus the NaOH) and is grown on-site. The goat's milk we use comes from some dear family goats who frolic and pal around, happy to share their milk for the cause.

We love our soap and invite you to try it (and love it) as well.

Your soap says it's pure and organic, but it uses sodium hydroxide (AKA lye). What's the deal?

NaOH
We do use sodium hydroxide (NaOH)! It's not an organic material, but that doesn't mean it's bad; it just means it doesn't contain any carbon atoms. It's the ingredient needed for the saponification process to happen. No sodium hydroxide = No soap. Any questions? Feel free to shoot 'em our way.

LYE
Lye = NaOH. Isn't lye some dangerous chemical that can damage skin? Word on the street is that years ago, there weren't any set regulations for lye and it caused some serious problems. That stuff is ancient history! Lye (sodium hydroxide) is used in the soap-making process, but there isn't actually lye in the final product. This is due to the chemical reaction between the oils and sodium hydroxide that results in an awesome bar of soap. Our soaps have a pH balance that is very close to that of a person's skin, and that's all a result of the lye+oil makings of soap. Cool, right?

ORGANIC
Soap can never truly be 100% organic due to sodium hydroxide. Sodium hydroxide isn't organic, but we've seen it in organic chemistry textbooks; that might count. Our soap is, however, as organic as they come. Every ingredient - from coconut oil to cocoa butter -- is organic.

How do I use a Clean::theBar soap bar?

Rub-a-dub-dub (a loofah also really helps with the lather).

Have you guys thought about doing more than just bar soaps?

Yep. It's in development. Stay tuned.

Will Clean::theBar soap gunk up my shower floor?

Without getting too sciency, if you've got hard water, and you're using a detergent-free soap, you might get that layer of residue. The trade-off to using an actual all-natural soap is that your skin will be free of gunk and stuff, with a soap that closely matches the pH level of your skin.

You can take care of your shower just like you do yourself. You clean yourself on a regular basis (we hope); don't forget to clean your shower as well and you'll be good. We use a daily shower cleaner that you just spray down after each shower (pick up at any store or make your own - we'll post our own formula soon).

Do you accept orders placed outside of the US?

We sure do!

How long will it take to receive my order?

Once shipped most domestic orders take anywhere from 2 to 10 business days to arrive depending on the efficiency of your local postal service. International shipping delivery times may vary between 2 and 12 weeks.

How can my company become a [Wash of the Day] distributor?

It's simple! Email arealperson(at)washoftheday(dot)com and someone will get back to you with info.
